MD International in collaboration with Diabetes Wellness Centre (DWC) and Pakistani Canada Association-Calgary (PCA) organized a Diabetes awareness session on Nov 27, 2021, at PCA hall. This seminar was organized for community education on awareness of diabetes, its prevention, and the management of complications. This session was very well attended by the community, leaders, and representatives of organizations including the Center for Newcomers (CFN). Free Blood pressure and blood sugar check-up were conducted by MDI international medical graduates and an educational booth on a healthy diet, nutrition, physical activity was set up for awareness. MOSAIC PCN pharmacist Steve Nile provided education on diabetes medicines and the use of blood sugar monitoring devices.
Honorable Muhammad Yaseen Chaudhry, Associate Minister of Immigration and Multiculturalism, also joined the session and presented certificates of appreciation to all presenters and volunteers of the event.
This event was organized as part of the world’s largest diabetes awareness campaign “WDD” reaching a global audience of over 1 billion people in more than 160 countries. This campaign draws attention to issues of paramount importance to the diabetes world and keeps diabetes firmly in the public and political spotlight.
The campaign is represented by a blue circle logo that was adopted in 2007 after the passage of the UN Resolution on diabetes. The blue circle is the global symbol for diabetes awareness. It signifies the unity of the global diabetes community in response to the diabetes epidemic.
Every year, the World Diabetes Day campaign focuses on a dedicated theme that runs for one or more years. The theme for World Diabetes Day 2021-23 was Access to Diabetes Care – If Not Now, When?.
