Dr. Zahid Rafiq

Zahid Rafiq MD, CCFP, FCFP Dr. Zahid Rafiq graduated from Rawalpindi Medical University, Pakistan. He is one of the founder members of MDI. Dr. Zahid Rafiq is currently working as a family physician in Calgary, Alberta Canada. He is vice chair of MOSAIC Primary Care Network. He worked with Doctors Without Borders in Zimbabwe for Mozambican refugees in 1993/94. He moved to South Africa in 1995 where he did his surgical training before moving to Canada in 2002. He believes in delivery of comprehensive health care to all without any discrimination.

Dr. Fizza Zahid Rafiq

MD, CCFP, FCFP Fizza Rafiq is a graduate of Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Pakistan. After graduating, she moved to South Africa and completed her training in MRCOG; later on, she obtained a Diploma in obstetrics from South Africa and then moved to Canada in 2002. Since 2005, she has been working as a Family Physician in Alberta. Dr. Rafiq is a clinical lecturer at Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary. She has been actively involved in teaching and training medical students and residents. Additionally, she is one of MDI's founding members and is working with them since its inception. In 2017, she took an active part in establishing, fundraising and supporting a medical camp in Refugee camps when given the opportunity to travel to Bangladesh on an MDI medical mission to support Rohingya Refugees. She had the honour of serving MDI as President from May 2019 to December 2020. In years to come, Dr. Rafiq is looking forward to watch MDI grow and serve humanity across the globe.

Dr. Abdul Rahman

Dr. Abdul Rahman, MBBS, MRCPsych (London), FRCPC. Born, Sahiwal Pakistan, graduated from Dow Medical College, Karachi. Completed Psychiatry training Program in Cambridge - Norwich Training Scheme, Norfolk UK. Currently working with Alberta Health Services and University of Calgary. I have been fortunate to be involved with MD International from its inception.

Dr. Naweed I Syed

Dr. Naweed Syed is a professor and the Scientific Director of Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute, Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary. Dr. Syed obtained his Master's degree from the University of Karachi, Pakistan in 1984, and his Ph.D. in Neurophysiology from the University of Leeds, UK (1988). After a three-year postdoctoral training at the University of Calgary (1988-1991), he was subsequently appointed as an assistant professor at the Faculty of Medicine, the University of Calgary. Dr. Syed has served as the Head of the Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy for the past 10 years and simultaneously worked as the Research Director for Hotchkiss Brain Institute. Dr. Syed and his team are the first to develop a bionic hybrid which enables direct dialogue between brain cells and silicon chip. In 2016, the Government of Pakistan awarded Dr. Syed the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz (Medal of Excellence – the highest civilian award for research and innovation). Dr. Syed is recognized amongst 150 Canadian Innovations/Innovators on the occasion of Canada’s 150 Birthday this year and has received the Canada-150 Medal by the Senate of Canada.

Dr. Sakina Raj

FAMILY PHYSICIAN MD, MSc, CCFP, FCFP, Associate Professor U of C “I want to make positive changes in people’s lives.” Dr. Raj has more than 30+ years of experience as a Family Physician. Her primary goal is to empower patients to take charge of their own health and wellness. She has experience working in emergency rooms, women’s health, mental health, pediatrics, and geriatrics. Dr.Raj gives back to her profession through teaching as an associate professor in Family Medicine at the University of Calgary.

Dr Mehwish Warsi received her medical degree from the renowned Dow university of Health and Sciences, Pakistan. She completed her Family medicine training from ZIauddin University, Pakistan. Before moving to Canada worked as general practitioner in hospitals. She is affiliated with MDI since 2016 and now holds the position of General Secretory. She is serving as family Physician since 2016 in Calgary. She has expertise in children and womens’ health care, helps IMG’s through wealth of her personal practical knowledge and experience.She is passionate to serve MDI

Dr. Imrana Riaz

General Secretary
Family Physician and Clinical Lecturer at the University of Calgary. Her passion is to teach medical students & residents. In addition to family practice, she looks after patients in long term care. Dr.Imrana is currently on the Board of Directors of MD International. She is an active member of the community and has been the heart and soul of many activities MD International.

Dr. Memoona Butt

Councillor at Large
Dr Memoona Butt did her graduation from a prestigious Fatima Jinnah Medical University in Pakistan and worked as a general practitioner in hospitals and private organizations for eight years before she moved to Canada. Dr Butt is practicing family medicine in Calgary for the last seven years and has expertise in dealing with patients having chronic pains, children and womens’ health care, some minor surgeries. She is an active member of organizations such as AIMGA, APPNA AB, PCA, and MDI. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family-dining out, hiking, biking, and swimming. Memoona believes in the famous saying: “Treat people the way you want to be treated.” (Ali ibne AbiTalib)

Dr. Sidra Javed

Councillor
General Internist & Clinical Lecturer at the University of Calgary. She is working at Foothills Medical Center. She graduated from Pakistan and finished her training and fellowship in Canada. She is quality improvement and patient safety certified by the Health Quality Council of Alberta (HQCA). She is embracing patient and family involvement in decision making and gaining skills through People-Centred Care Leadership Program offered by Canada Healthcare Association(CHA), a division o Healthcare Canada.

Dr. Farhat Khan

Dr.Farhat Khan did her graduation from Dow Medical College Pakistan. She did her obstetrics & gynecology training from Fatima Memorial Hospital Pakistan, worked 8 years as an Obs & Gyne specialist in Pakistan & later in Saudi Arabia. She got her Family medicine training from Fatima Memorial Hospital Pakistan. Dr. Khan is practicing family medicine since past 4 years in Calgary with expertise in women health & pediatrics. She is a member of AIMGA & MDI.

Dr. Ibrahim Aytour

Dr. Aytour is practicing radiology since 2010 in Calgary and is the on-site Pediatric Radiologist at CDC’s Marlborough location. He received his Medical Degree from Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, Kaunas, Lithuania in 2003. Then, completed his Radiology degree from Beirut Arab University, Beirut, Lebanon in 2008. In 2010, he completed two years of fellowship in Pediatric Radiology at Alberta children hospital, University of Calgary.
